Asheville, NC- This past weekend, the Trailblazers traveled to the University of North Carolina Asheville for the Bulldog Invitational. The meet proved to be a massive success, as many athletes set new personal bests and several school records fell.
Starting with the field events, senior
Hannah Hill continued her dominant campaign, winning and setting a new personal best of 5.66 meters. In the men's long jump, sophomore
Justin Pauling set a personal best of 6.53 meters. In the women's hammer throw, junior
Madeline Holsenback threw a personal best of 35.89 meters. In the men's javelin, senior
Josh White threw a personal best of 46.60 meters. Freshman
Tucker Upton threw 41.35 meters, also a personal best for him.
For the sprints, there were many incredible performances. In the women's 100-meter dash, Hill, freshman Destiny James, and sophomore
Shachiah Paul all set personal bests, running 11.95 seconds, 12.63 seconds, and 13. 49 seconds, respectively. In the 200-meter dash, Paul recorded her second personal best of the meet, crossing the line in 27.96 seconds. In the 400, Hill set her third personal best of the meet, running 55.90; while James set her second personal best of the meet, running 1:01.92. In the hurdles, senior
Katlyn Rose accomplished the incredible feat of setting personal bests in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles, running 16.48 and 1:09.82, respectively.
For the distance events, sophomore
Cecily Anderton stole the show when she once again broke the 5,000-meter school record and became the first woman in program history to break the 18-minute barrier when she crossed the line in 17:56. Coming off an injury, sophomore
Addison Martin had an incredible race, setting a personal best of 19:42. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore
Riley Shope broke her own school record, running a personal best of 11:24. Junior
Zoie Justice also ran a massive personal best, crossing the line in 12:35.
Moving to mid distance, freshman
Ellie Timmons ran a personal best in the women's 1500-meter run of 4:49. Not far behind, junior
Paris Alsup ran 5:07, a personal best for her. In the men's 1500-meter run, sophomore Joel Herman ran a personal best of 4:11. In the 800-meter run, Timmons set her second personal best of the meet, crossing the line in 2:20. Senior
Kaylee Copeland rounded out her final track season running a personal best of 2:36.
That's a wrap for the regular season for the Trailblazers. They will take a short break before they travel down to the beach for the postseason for the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on April 24
th through April 26
th.
