Strong Second Half Not Enough as NGU Falls to Belmont Abbey

North Greenville fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders with a final score of 73-72. NGU trailed at the half 31-24 but outscored BAC 48-42 in the second half. Second chance points kept North Greenville in the game as they would dominate in the category 21-7. Roderick Howell posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

1st Half

North Greenville began the game ice cold, scoring just four points in the first eleven minutes. Trailing by 18 with just over five minutes remaining in the half, NGU would put up quite a fight in the final five minutes to cut the deficit to just seven points going into halftime. NGU shot 26.1% for the first half. Roderick Howell led in points with thirteen. Nine of his points were scored at the free throw line.

2nd Half

NGU continued to carry the momentum to begin the second half with a 10-4 run to cut the deficit to one point. With 14:05 remaining, North Greenville claimed the lead for the first time in the game as a three-pointer by Daniel Burchette put NGU up 46-44. Belmont Abbey quickly took the lead back and built an 11-point lead, but North Greenville would fight back once again with a 15-5 run. With the game coming down to the wire, NGU had an opportunity to shoot a game-tying three-pointer as time expired, but would come up short. North Greenville vastly improved with a 58.3 field goal percentage from the field. Kovi Tate dominated the second half with twenty points.

Individual

Roderick Howell put up a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. He also provided 3 assists and a block.

Kovi Tate recorded 20 points and 9 rebound. He fell one rebound short of his fourth-straight double-double.

Ryan Mobley scored 10 points and provided a rebound and an assist.
