Box Score 2 The North Greenville Trailblazers fell just short in both games of a doubleheader in Wise, Virginia starting with a 4-2 loss to the Bald Eagles of Lock Haven University then following up with a 7-6 loss to the Cavaliers of UVA Wise. The Trailblazers put together a similar performance in both games as they would go scoreless in the first four innings then get on the board in the 5th in both games. Against Lock Haven, NGU fell behind with a score of 3-0 but a run in the 5th and 6th innings put them back within a run. The Bald Eagles put an insurance run on the board in the 7th, and North Greenville went three up, three down in the bottom of the inning to secure the win for Lock Haven.
Owyen Lyall was the starting pitcher, but struggled to find her command as she lasted just two outs and was charged with the loss. In game two of the day, UVA Wise jumped out ahead early on, scoring two runs in the 1st, a run in the 2nd, and two more runs in the 3rd. After a scoreless 4th inning, the North Greenville bats came to life in the 5th, scoring five runs including a two-run double by
Maddie Stone to tie the game. However, the Cavaliers reclaimed the lead with a run in the bottom of the 5th and added an important insurance run in the 6th. NGU put up a fight in the 7th as an RBI double by
Emily Dawson cut the deficit to one, but a strikeout would end the game with two runners stranded in scoring position.
Georgia Lieb, who pitched 3.1 innings, was charged with the loss.
Emily Blackwell finished her day with four hits including a double as well as three runs scored and a walk.
Ali Hartin posted three hits in addition to a walk, a run scored, and an RBI.
Ari Day also recorded three hits.
North Greenville will return to action on Wednesday, February 19th against the Eagles of Carson-Newman University in Johnson City, Tennessee.
