Spartanburg, S.C. – North Greenville fell victim to an upset minded Converse University on Thursday falling 3 – 2 to the 12 seeded Valkyries in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
The Trailblazers looked poised to strike early loading the bases in the first inning but the Valkyries defense left them standing on the base path. Converse Capitalized in the third inning of the scoreless game plating a pair of runs to take the lead.
North Greenville finally capitalized in the bottom of the sixth inning after squandering opportunities earlier in the game.
Emily Blackwell delivered a two – out RBI single which brought around
Maddie Stone and
Brooklyn Amble to even the score. Thursday night would belong to the Valkyries however. Converse would tack on a run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and hold NGU scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to earn their second upset win of the day.
Blackwell led NGU going 2 – 4 with a pair of RBI.
Jordan Slocum was 2 – 3 while
Haylee Whitesides finished 1 – 3. Brookllyn Amble finished 1 – 3 with a run scored.
