Lynchburg, VA- On Friday, the Trailblazers traveled up to Liberty University to compete in the Liberty Open Invitational. The meet showcased some familiar competition, as well as some teams the Trailblazers hadn't seen before. Nonetheless, the Trailblazers stood out among their competitors in this two-day meet.
Starting with the 60-meter dash on Friday, sophomore
Shachiah Paul ran season best of 8.57 seconds. Junior
Bre'Asia Robinson also ran a personal best of 7.73 seconds in her second meet back.
For the Friday field events, Junior
AJ Nash threw a personal best in the weight throw at a distance of 39 feet and 8 ¾ inches. Sophomore
Justin Pauling set a personal best in the long jump at a distance of 20 feet and 5 ¼ inches.
For the final event of the night on Friday, which was the 5,000-meter run, freshman
Brennan Harp joined the sub-16 minute club, running a personal best of 15:53. On the women's side, junior
Rebekah Haddad won her heat running a personal best time of 19:18.
The running events kicked off Saturday morning with the mile run. For the men, sophomore
Thomas Schilling crossed the line first, running a personal best of 4:26. Fellow sophomore
Dominique Cox ran a time of 4:35, also a personal best. On the women's side, freshman
Ellie Timmons continued her stellar indoor campaign, not only running a personal best of 5:14, but also setting a new program record. After a quick turnaround from the night before,
Rebekah Haddad also ran a time of 5:46, a collegiate personal best.
For the Saturday sprints, senior
Hannah Hill finished with a bang, running an indoor personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.39 seconds- the first PR she's had in that event in three years.
In the 800-meter run, senior
Mason White broke the elusive 2-minute barrier, running an indoor personal best time of 1:59.91.
For both the men and women, the 3,000-meter run was full of fast performances. For the men,
Brennan Harp set another personal best with a time of 9:14- and awesome feat that he recorded personal bests in both events of one of the most difficult event doubles. Senior
Matthew Heath finished close behind with a time of 9:19, also a personal best. For the women, sophomore
Cecily Anderton broke the newly set school record, running a personal best of 10:29 and winning her heat. Fellow sophomore
Riley Shope was close behind, running a personal best of 10:37. Junior
Paris Alsup crossed the line with a time of 11:00, also a personal best.
For the Saturday field events, both the men and women excelled in the shot put. For the men, sophomore
Taylor Campbell threw a personal best of 45 feet and 9 ½ inches. Showing her versatility on and off the track,
Hannah Hill threw a personal best of 27 feet and 3 ½ inches.
Next, the Trailblazers will be back at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday and Monday February 23
