Columbia, SC- On Friday, the Trailblazers took a quick trip Down to the University of South Carolina at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex to take care of business at the Carolina Challenge. Not only did the Trailblazers stand up well among the competition, but five program records were broken by the meet's conclusion.
Some of the biggest performances of the day came from the women's 5,000-meter run. Sophomore
Cecily Anderton crossed the line with a stellar performance of 18:22 for the indoor 5,000-meter run. Not only is this time a personal best for her, but it is also a new program record. Fellow sophomore
Riley Shope was next to cross the line with a personal best of 18:38- also below the previous program record time. Junior
Paris Alsup was next with a massive personal best of 18:56. Junior
Christiana Gidney finished next for the Trailblazers with a personal best of 19:32- her first time breaking the 20-minute barrier. Following her was sophomore
Addison Martin, who ran a personal best of 19:44.
For the short sprints, senior
Hannah Hill stole the show, setting personal bests in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.77 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.90 seconds-which is the new program record. In her first track meet in two years, junior
Bre'Asia Robinson had a strong season opener in the 60-meter dash, setting a personal best of 7.78 seconds. Sophomore
Shachiah Paul also had a big day, setting personal best for the second week in a row in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.30.
In the 800-meter run, on the men's side, sophomore
Ben Jaminet broke the indoor record with a personal-best time of 1:54. Junior
David Kushnir also ran a personal-best, with a time of 2:20. On the women's side, senior
Kaylee Copeland ran a lifetime personal best of 2:37.
On the men's side, for the mile run, sophomore
Thomas Schilling broke the 4:30-barrier to run a personal best time of 4:29 in his first meet of the season. Fellow sophomore
Dominique Cox also ran a personal best time of 4:40.
To round out the running events, the women's 3,000-meter run also had some big performances. Freshman
Ellie Timmons annihilated the old school record, running a personal best time of 10:32. Junior
Rebekah Haddad crossed the line next for the Trailblazers with a personal best time of 11:17.
Throughout the day, there were many big performances in the field events. Sophomore
Justin Pauling set a collegiate personal best on the long jump with a distance of 6.16 meters. Last but not least, sophomore
Taylor Campbell threw a personal best and broke the school record for the second week in a row in the weight throw with a distance of 15.19 meters at 49-10.00. Campbell also threw a personal best in the shotput, throwing a distance of 13.76 meters at 45-01.75.
Next, the Trailblazers are traveling up to Lynchburg, Virginia to compete at the Liberty Open at Liberty University, Friday and Saturday February 7
th and 8
th.
