Box Score 2 The North Greenville Trailblazers won both games in a season-opening doubleheader in two completely different ways, outlasting the Sand Sharks of USC Beaufort in extra innings with a final score of 13-11 then completely dominating game two with a score of 29-3 in Beaufort, South Carolina.
NGU couldn't have asked for a better start to the season as the top of the 1st in game one saw two three-run home runs, which were hit by
Josh Foulks and Bret Blomquist. The Trailblazers continued to pull away, scoring two runs in the 4th, a run in the 5th, and another run in the 6th to take a 10-0 lead. However, the bottom of the 7th saw a ferocious comeback by the Sand Sharks with a ten run inning to tie the score. After two scoreless innings, NGU reclaimed the lead in the top of the 10th with a two-run home run by
Alton Gyselman and a fielding error that allowed Blomquist to score. USCB responded with a run, but
Tyler Dean would go on to limit the damage to secure the win. Dean was the winning pitcher.
Game two proved to be completely controlled by North Greenville, who scored in all but the final inning. NGU proved to be dominant at the plate, combining for nine extra-base hits including two triples and a home run.
Tristan Salinas would record the home run as well as one of the triples. The Trailblazers led 29-0 going into the middle of the 7th. USC Beaufort was able to get on the board with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but North Greenville would eventually record the final out for the one-sided victory.
Tristan Salinas impressed in his NGU debut, posting five hits including a home run and a triple, seven runs, four RBIs, and a walk.
Landon Peavy finished the day with four hits, four runs, three RBIs, and three walks.
Brody Fowler was solid on the mound, pitching 4.0 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out six.
NGU and USC Beaufort will face each other in another doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon.
