Trailblazers Beat North Georgia but Fall to FMU in Region Championship Round

Tigerville – North Greenville up-ended North Georgia Saturday afternoon 7 – 3 to advance in the Southeast Region Tournament. The Trailblazers looked to force an "if necessary" with a win over Francis Marion Saturday night but a late rally fell short as the Patriots advanced to the Super Regional with an 11 – 8 win.

After falling behind 2-0 in the opening inning, NGU responded with three runs in the third and broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning.

Thomas Powell led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Landon Peavy also drove in two runs and scored twice. Samford Halcomb added a two-run single during the decisive sixth inning, and Mason Swinney finished with three hits.

On the mound, Ben Leikam earned the win after tossing four strong innings in relief, allowing just one run with three strikeouts. Connor Brinson closed the door in the ninth as the Trailblazers improved to 49-11 on the season.

In game two, The Patriots scored seven runs in the first four innings and held off a late Trailblazer comeback attempt.

Thomas Powell led NGU offensively, going 4-for-4 with a home run, double, three runs scored, and an RBI. Lane McGaha added a three-run homer and finished with three RBIs, while Mason Swinney homered and drove in two runs. Kai Tullos also chipped in with a double and RBI as the Trailblazers totaled 14 hits.
