North Greenville Falls to Lander

The North Greenville Crusaders fell short of a comeback in Greenwood, South Carolina against the Bearcats of Lander University. After struggling in the opening two sets, NGU recovered with a strong set three. However, set four proved to also be a struggle with the Crusaders finishing up the match with a .157 attack percentage while trailing in all major categories.

Lander took an early lead to begin set one. Although North Greenville was able to fight back and keep the deficit to two, the Bearcats would pull away late by ending the set with an 11-2 run to win the set 25-13. NGU controlled set two early on, but an 11-3 run by Lander would put the Bearcats up by five. North Greenville would keep it close, but LU would hang on to win the set 25-20. The Crusaders would get off to another strong start in set three. With a two point lead, NGU would go on a 6-0 run to lead by eight. Although Lander would put together a late run, the Crusaders were able to hang on for a 25-22 set win. LU was the team to get off to a strong start to begin set four. North Greenville would hang around but could only score consecutive points just three throughout the remainder of the set as the Bearcats would end the match with a 25-18 set victory.

Abigail Durham put together another strong match, posting fifteen kills along with a block assist and a dig. Samantha Ball also hit double-digit kills with eleven and also recorded seven digs and a block assist. Anna Fiddelke neared double-digits with nine kills along with three block assists.

NGU will continue their tournament tomorrow against the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University.
