For the first time in program history, the North Greenville Crusaders are entering the Conference Carolinas Tournament as the #1 overall seed. This afternoon, the Crusaders will face the Lions of Emmanuel College with the winner advancing to the tournament finals.
The Emmanuel Lions finished the regular season with a 15-13 overall record and a 7-7 record in conference play. NGU and Emmanuel faced each other twice in the regular season. On Wednesday, March 2nd, the two teams played at Hayes Gymnasium, with the Crusaders taking the 1st, 2nd, and 4th sets to win the match 3-1.
Diego Rosich led North Greenville with three kills. Blocks told the story as the Crusaders dominated in total blocks 28-10. The two teams then wrapped up their regular seasons on Saturday, April 9th in Franklin Springs, Georgia. NGU put together a repeat performance, taking the 1st, 2nd, and 4th sets to win 3-1. Rosich once again led North Greenville with seventeen kills. Blocks proved to be much more even than the first match between the two as the Lions led the category 16-15.
NGU is currently on a nine-match winning streak against the Lions, and has dominated the series 14-3. In postseason play, the two programs squared off last season in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament, with the Crusaders sweeping the match 3-0.
This afternoon's match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM in Mount Olive, North Carolina.
