Crusaders Fall to Converse

North Greenville dropped a conference match to the Valkyries of Converse University with a final score of 3-1 this afternoon in Spartanburg, SC. NGU took the opening set with ease but fell on the short side of the following three sets. The Crusaders led the match in total points, kills, aces, assists, and digs. However, sixteen blocks by Converse compared to NGU's five proved to be a large factor in the match.

Recap
  • Things started off well for the Crusaders as they would thoroughly dominate the opening set with a .296 attack percentage. A 12-0 run by NGU early on in the set proved to be enough as the Crusaders would easily take the first set 25-13.
  • NGU would lead for the overwhelming majority of set two. Trailing 16-9, Converse would go on an impressive 11-1 run to claim a 20-17 lead. The Crusaders would get back within a point, but the Valkyries would go on to take the set 25-22.
  • Set three would also be a highly competitive one. Trailing for most of the set, North Greenville would rally late in the set and nearly complete the comeback. However, Converse would barely hang on to win the third set 25-23.
  • The fourth set would be similar to the third, with Converse leading for the majority of the set with the Crusaders nearly rallying late in the set. NGU would end the set on a 6-2 run, but the Valkyries were the ones to score the final point, winning the final set 25-19.
