Box Score Bristol – A record breaking season came to a close for NGU Men's Volleyball on Saturday with a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 22-25) loss to Belmont Abbey in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas tournament.
North Greenville looked dominant in the first set, leading by as many as 11-points after a Belmont Abbey service error made it 15-4.
Jackson Gilbert led the Crusaders with four kills in the opening frame. Gilbert finished the game with 19-kills to lead all NGU players.
Abbey was able to shake off the slow start in set one to take the next three sets. NGU led at the midway point in each of those sets but were unable to fend off Belmont Abbey down the stretch. Errors haunted each team, especially from the service line where North Greenville finished with 16 errors while Abbey misserved 18.
The game was ultimately decided on the defensive end of the net where Belmont Abbey stifled NGU's offense with 18 assisted blocks while NGU had just 11. NGU led both teams with a pair of solo blocks.
The Crusaders finished the day with 41-kills but hit just .211 in the process with 18-errors. Meanwhile Abbey put down 51-kills with 23 errors and edged NGU with a .253 hitting percentage. NGU finished with seven blocks but was edged by Abbey who finished with nine.
Luis Kannee finished the day with six kills along with
Brandon Baker and
Diego Rosich who had six as well. Sergio Carillo ended the night with 31-assists in the effort. Carillo also had a pair of aces at the service line along with Rich.
Jackson Gilbert led the team with three.
North Greenville finishes the year 12-4 overall and 7-4 in league play.
