Box Score 2 North Greenville fell short in the battle of the Crusaders by splitting a doubleheader with the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in Belmont, North Carolina. After dropping the opening game Friday, NGU fell one run short in game two 9-8 before winning convincingly in the final game with a score of 11-0. Logan Chapman picked up his 4th win of the season while Christian Ryder was charged with a loss.
Game One - 9-8 BAC
Christian Ryder took the mound for his sixth start of the season. Belmont Abbey's Mason Dodd would score two runs in the bottom of the 1st with a home run to put BAC on the board. The bottom of the 3rd had a similar result with a two-run home run by Zach Aehlert. NGU would get on the board in the top of the 4th with an RBI single to right field by Brady West. However, Belmont Abbey would pull away further in the bottom of the inning with another four runs scored including a three-run home run by Adam Overcash. North Greenville would get back into the game thanks to a huge top of the 5th that included a grand slam by Brady West to pull within a run. BAC would respond with one run in the bottom of the inning. A sacrifice fly by Michael Neustifter would bring in a run in the top of the 8th to once again pull North Greenville within one run, but NGU would leave two runners on base in both the 8th and 9th innings to fall just short of a comeback. Ryder was charged with the loss.
Game Two - 11-0 NGU
Logan Chapman started his 5th game of the season. After a scoreless 1st inning, NGU would get going with a four run top of the 2nd that included Aaron Adams reaching on a throwing error that allowed two runs to score, an RBI single up the middle by Brady West, and a sacrifice fly by Gehrig Octavio. A throwing error in the top of the 3rd allowed North Greenville's fifth run to score. The 4th inning resulted in three additional runs for NGU by way of a sacrifice fly by John Michael Faile and a two-RBI single by Aaron Adams. After the 5th and 6th innings went scoreless, the top of the 7th proved to be another successful inning for North Greenville as an RBI fielder's choice by Ethan Stringer and an RBI single by Jordan Holladay put two more runs on the board. In the top of the 9th, one more run would cross home plate for NGU as a result of an RBI single by Dawson Price. Brock Robinson would pitch a scoreless bottom of the 9th to secure the win for NGU.
The Crusaders will head to Anderson, South Carolina to face the Trojans of Anderson University on Tuesday, March 10th.
