Box Score NGU took a loss to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders with a final score of 13-2 to open up the weekend conference series in Belmont, North Carolina. North Greenville scored both runs in the top of the 1st but were shutout for the remainder of the game. Two errors also proved to be costly as three of BAC's runs were unearned. Cory Bivins put together a solid performance, posting 2 hits including a double.
North Greenville was able to take an early lead in the 1st when Gehrig Octavio homered to centerfield, which also scored John Michael Faile. Belmont Abbey responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single. A second run would score in the inning due to a balk. After scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings, BAC would take its first lead of the game when six runs scored in the bottom of the 4th including a two-run home run by Ben Gobbel. Another two scoreless innings would follow, but Belmont Abbey would increase the lead in the bottom of the 7th with another two-run home run, this one by Ben Sneider. Things would continue to go BAC's way in the 8th when an RBI double, an RBI single, and wild pitch resulted in three more runs scoring, making what would end up being the final score of 13-2.
The Battle of the Crusaders will continue tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
