Crusaders Fall to Nationally-Ranked Tampa

NGU dropped a 19-5 contest to the #5 ranked Spartans of Tampa University this evening in Tampa, Florida. The Crusaders did hold a very early lead by scoring the opening point, but from there was unable to slow down the Spartan attack. Rachel Kellogg led NGU with 2 goals.

The Crusaders would stun Tampa with a very early goal less than thirty seconds into the game by Rachel Kellogg. However, it didn't take the Spartans very long to respond as they would tie the game less than ten seconds later and would go onto to score two additional goals to lead 3-1. Kellogg was able to cut the deficit down to one with another goal, but from there Tampa would score the next six goals to lead 9-2. After an goal by Maegan Easler with an assist by Bridgett Sewell, the Spartans would go on to score the final three goals on the first half to take a 12-3 lead into halftime.

Tampa began the second half with three more goals to increase the lead to twelve points. An unassisted goal by Jillian Chiesa would end the scoring drought for NGU. After three additional goals by the Spartans, Olivia Foltz would score an unassisted goal to give the Crusaders their fifth and final goal of the game. Tampa put one more goal on the board before time expired for a fourteen point victory.

North Greenville will remain in Florida to take on the Tars of Rollins College on Saturday, March 7th in Winter Park, Florida.
