North Greenville Shuts Out Newberry

NGU completed its second shutout in three games with a 5-0 victory over the Wolves of Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina. Pitching was dominant as Seth Chestnut, who recorded the win, pitched 6.1 scoreless innings giving up just 4 hits while Brent Herlong followed up with a hitless 2.2 innings. Ethan Stringer was solid at the plate, posting a home run, a double, and 2 RBIs.

North Greenville was quick to get on the board as in the top of the 1st, John Michael Faile would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Gehrig Octavio. After scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings, a wild pitch in the top of the 4th allowed Brady West to score. In the top of the 6th, Michael Neustifter knocked a home run down the left field line to make the score 3-0. Ethan Stringer would come through in the top of the 7th with a two-run homer to left field. Brent Herlong would take the mount with one out and two runners on in the bottom of the 7th. He would retire both batters faced to end the threat by Newberry and close out the game with no runs allowed to complete the shutout. Seth Chestnut was the winning pitcher.

The Crusaders will face the Erskine Flying Fleet in a weekend conference series beginning on Friday, March 13th in Due West, South Carolina.
