Box Score Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders made their return to Tigerville a successful one as they defeated the Blue Knights of Urbana University with a score of 3-1 at Hayes Gymnasium. NGU dropped the opening set, but came back with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th set wins. Jackson Gilbert once again led the way with 20 kills and 40 attacks.
Set one proved to be a competitive one, with neither team able to lead by more than three. The set would feature sixteen ties, but Urbana was able to string together three straight points to end the set with a score of 25-22.
The second set saw NGU jump out to a small but consistent lead. A five point run would result in the Crusaders pulling away to lead 16-9. Late in the set, the Blue Knights were able to put together a small run, but North Greenville would ultimately take the set without much of an issue, winning it 25-20.
NGU was once again able jump ahead early in set three, eventually resulting in a 9-4 lead. The Crusaders would lead by as much as seven in the set. Urbana once again put together a run late, but NGU again was able to finish out the set with kills by Jackson Gilbert and Luis Kannee to take the third set 25-20.
Set four saw Urbana take the opening point, but the Crusaders would take over from there, getting ahead to a 12-5 lead. NGU would continue to pull away to lead by as much as eleven. The Blue Knights put together a 5-1 run late, but Luis Kannee would record NGU's final two kills to take the final set 25-18.
The Crusaders will head to Banner Elk, North Carolina on Saturday, March 14th to face the Lees-McRae Bobcats.
