Crusaders Complete Sweep of Bellarmine in Rare Sunday Action

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders completed the sweep of the 17th ranked Bellarmine Knights with 2-0 and 9-6 victories at Ray & Bea Dillard Field at Ashmore Park. In the bottom of the 1st inning in game two of the series, snow forced the game to be delayed. That game wouldn't continue until Sunday afternoon. Jeremy Whitehead and John Michael Faile each collected 4 hits between the two games while Seth Chestnut and Nic Messina recorded their first wins of the season.

Game One - 2-0 NGU

Christian Ryder took the Saturday start. NGU would strike early in the top of the 1st with two runs including Jeremy Whitehead scoring on a wild pitch and John Michael Faile hitting an RBI single. With two out, snow delayed the remainder of the day, forcing the fame to continue Sunday afternoon. Seth Chestnut pitched the remainder of the game for the Crusaders, throwing six shutout innings and allowing just two hits and striking out four to secure the win.

Game Two - 9-6 NGU

Logan Chapman started the final game of the series. Bellarmine would get on the board first in the top of the 2nd with an RBI groundout. They would go on to add four more runs in the top of the 5th when a two-RBI double was followed by a two-RBI single to make the score 5-0 in favor of North Greenville. In the bottom of the inning, NGU would finally get going when Brady West homered to right center to score two runs. The Crusaders would add two more runs in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI fielder's choice by Douglas Angeli and an RBI single by Brady West. After the Knights added a run to lead by two, North Greenville struck in the bottom of the 7th, scoring five runs including RBI doubles by Faile and West, and two-RBI double by Michael Neustifter, and an RBI groundout by Angeli. Ryan Kirk would pitch two scoreless innings to end the game, earning the save and completing the sweep.

 

NGU will face the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in a three game series beginning on Friday, February 14th.
