Box Score North Greenville began the weekend with a 10-2 victory over the 18th ranked Bellarmine Knights at Ashmore Park. The game began as a pitchers' dual, but the Crusaders put the game out of reach in the 8th. NGU recorded 10 runs on 14 hits and an error. Jeremy Whitehead had a game to remember, posting three triples down the right field line, 3 runs scored, and 2 RBIs. Ethan Garner was the winning pitcher.
Ethan Garner started his second game of the season. He began the game by striking out the side in the 1st inning. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Crusaders made some noise by getting two runners on base including a double by Doug Angeli, but two straight outs would end the inning without a run scoring. However, NGU would get on the board in the bottom of the 3rd. After Jeremy Whitehead's first of three triples, Gehrig Octavio would drive him in with an RBI double down the right field line. The Knights would instantly strike back with a solo shot in the top of the 4th. In the bottom of the 5th, Jordan Holladay put North Greenville back ahead with an RBI single that deflected off the pitcher. NGU would go on to add two additional runs in the 7th with an RBI triple by Whitehead and an RBI single up the middle by Octavio. After another solo home run by Bellarmine, the Crusaders would pull away for good with a six-run 8th inning that included a 2-RBI double by John Michael Faile and an RBI single by Whitehead. JK Love entered the game to replace Garner. He pitched a three up, three down inning to end the game.
The series will continue tomorrow with game one of the doubleheader starting at noon.
