Crusaders Drop Doubleheader to Coker

The North Greenville Crusaders fell to 10-10 for the season with 9-2 and 3-1 losses to the Cobras of Coker College on a cold but sunny day at Jan McDonald Field. NGU had a good day at the plate, posting 15 hits for the day, but ultimately came up short in the runs column. Brooklyn Stone and Brianna McRae both posted 4 hits for the day. Jaelin Griffin and Callie Richards were charged with losses.

Game 1 - 9-2 CC

Coker was able to score a quick run in the top of the 1st by way of a wild pitch. However, the Crusaders quickly responded with a run of their own when an error allowed Brooklyn Stone to score a run. Pitching would go onto dominate the reminder of regulation. NGU had a chance to end the game in regulation, but strand five combined runners in the 6th and 7th innings. Things would unravel for North Greenville in the top of the 8th when Coker scored eight runs in the inning including a three-run home run by Lauren DeWit. The Crusaders didn't go down without a fight, scoring one run thanks to an RBI single by Ashlyn Hutto, but the Cobras were able to close the game out with two straight outs. Jaelin Griffin was the losing pitcher.

Game 2 - 3-1 CC

With Callie Richards taking the mound for the start, the Cobras would take an early lead in the 2nd when Madison King hit a solo shot. She would strike again in the 4th with an RBI double. North Greenville would enter the run column in the bottom of the 5th when a wild pitch allowed Makayla Brackett to score. In the top of the 6th, Coker would add an insurance run with an RBI single. The Crusaders posted two hits in the bottom of the 7th, but left both runners on base. Richards took the loss.

 

NGU will return to action on Tuesday, March 3rd against the Cougars of Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia.
