Box Score North Greenville was unable to get revenge on the team that ended the 2019 season as the Catawba Indians claimed an 11-7 victory in Salisbury, North Carolina. Home runs were not a rarity as the two teams would combine for 9 with the Crusaders recording 5 of those. Brady West had a huge game, posting 3 hits with 2 home runs.
Seth Chestnut took the midweek start. Catawba was quick to get on the board as Lance Poteat would connect for a leadoff home run to begin the bottom of the 1st. The Indians would follow that up with another solo shot in the 2nd by Zack Miller. Brady West would put the Crusaders on the board in the top of the 3rd with a leadoff home run. However, CAT would respond in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double. The 4th inning proved to be the big one for both teams. NGU had a solid top of the inning with five runs including home runs by Jordan Holladay, Michael Neustifter, and Cory Bivins. Catawba responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning including Miller's second home run of the game. Leading by two, the Indians opened up their lead further in the bottom of the 5th when Lance Poteat hit his second home run of the game, scoring three to give CAT an 11-6 lead. West gave the Crusaders one last run in the top of the 6th with his second home run of the game, but pitching was finally able to hold both teams in check for the remainder of the game including a scoreless inning by Duncan Callahan and two scoreless innings by Ryan Kirk. Seth Chestnut, who gave up eight earned runs in 3.1 innings of work, was charged with the loss.
NGU will try to rebound when they return to action on Friday, February 28th to face the Lions of Emmanuel College.
