Crusaders split with Aiken

Tigerville – North Greenville split a double-header with USC Aiken on Saturday with a 6-4 loss and an 11-2 win over the Pacers.

The Crusaders put up a four-spot in the first inning of game one on the power of RBI base hits from Brianna McRae and Josie Reed. McRae’s single brought home Brooke Wade and Brooklyn Stone while a run scoring double plated McRae and Claire Gilmore.

North Greenville finished the game with nine-hits but failed to score in the final six innings, stranding nine. Brooklyn Stone led the offense with three hits and a run scored while McRae finished with a pair of hits and two RBI.

NGU held serve until Aiken was able to break through in the fourth and fifth innings. A single run in the fourth and a three run fifth evened the score up at 4-4, eventually sending the game in to extras where the Pacers would plate a pair in the eighth to earn the game one win.

GAME TWO

The Crusaders bounced back quickly in game two using the momentum of another big inning in the early goings to fuel the game two win. North Greenville scored three runs in the second inning on three base hits including a Claire Gilmore double to make 3-0.

Two insurance runs in the third inning another two runs in the fifth made it 7-0 in favor of the Crusaders. North Greenville pitching held the Pacers scoreless until sixth when they scratched a pair on an RBI single which cut North Greenville’s lead to five runs. Callie Richards would go on to carry NGU to the win and improve her record to 2-1, allowing two runs on seven hits 

The Crusaders exploded for another big frame I the sixth inning with for runs crossing and ending the game on the run-rule. Brooklyn Stone’s two RBI single ended the game, plating runs 10 and 11. North Greenville also got an RBI double from Carmen Silvester and got some help from the Pacers on an error which brought across Hailey Wells earlier in the frame.

Carmen Silvester finished a perfect 3-3 from the dish with three RBI in the game two win. Claire Gilmore was also spotless with three hits in three appearances and led the team with four runs scored and a pair of RBI. Brooklyn Stone finished with three RBI on two hits.

North Greenville will host Carson-Newman on Tuesday afternoon at 3 PM.
