Box Score 2 The North Greenville Crusaders fell to 9-3 for the young season after being shutout in a doubleheader by the Newberry Wolves with final scores of 11-0 and 2-0 this afternoon in Newberry, South Carolina. NGU was no-hit in game one before posting 5 hits in game two, with two of them by Brianna McRae.
Game One - 11-0 NBY
Jaelin Griffin took the start, looking for her fifth win of the season. Newberry got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when a throwing error allowed a run to score. The big inning would happen for the Wolves in the bottom of the 3rd when seven runs would come across the plate, including a grand slam by Mallena Wright. Three more runs would score for NBY in the bottom of the 4th including a two run home run by Haley Simonds. The Crusaders would draw two walks to put runners on base, but two strikeouts put an end to the game with the no-hitter intact for Newberry. Griffin was charged with her first loss of the season.
Game Two - 2-0 NBY
Callie Richards took the mound for her fourth start of the season, looking for her second win. After two scoreless innings to start the game, the Wolves struck in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI single to left center. Pitching continued to dominate for both teams, but NBY was able to add an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th when a double to right field brought in a run. North Greenville would add a hit in the top of the 7th, but a groundout ended the game, preserving another shutout for Newberry. Richards was the losing pitcher, and is now 1-1 for the season.
NGU will return to action tomorrow in Tigerville against the Pacers of USC Aiken.
