Box Score Tigerville, SC - North Greenville suffered an 11-10 loss to the Trojans of Anderson University at Ray & Bea Dillard Field. The Crusaders had a productive day offensively, scoring 11 runs on 12 hits and 2 errors by Anderson. However, the Trojans were able to post 12 runs on 15 hits and 5 errors by NGU. Jordan Holladay hit a grand slam in the game and drove in 5 total runs. Duncan Callahan took the loss.
Seth Chestnut took the mount to start the game. Anderson would put together a run in the top of the 1st by way of a sacrfice fly. After a scoreless 2nd, the Trojans scored two more runs in the 3rd with a two-RBI single. North Greenville would get on the board in the bottom of the inning when Josh Senter doubled down the right field line. That was followed by a grand slam by Jordan Holladay to put the Crusaders up 5-3. In the bottom of the 4th, Cory Bivins added another run to the board by way of an RBI groundout to shortstop. The 5th inning was a success for both teams as Anderson would post a run while the Crusaders responded with an RBI fielder's choice by Holladay and a wild pitch that allowed Gehrig Octavio to score. AU would claim the lead in the top of the 6th by scoring three runs, and would add an additional run in the top of the 7th. However, NGU took the lead right back in the bottom of the inning by way of a two-RBI double to left field by Doug Angeli and a sacrifice fly by Lex Tuten to give North Greenville an 11-10 lead. In the top of the 8th, two errors and some timely hitting by the Crusaders would contribute to the Trojans scoring two runs to take a 12-11 lead. NGU would record a hit in the bottom of the 8th as well as the bottom of the 9th, but was unable to get a run across.
NGU will enter conference play this weekend, taking on the Barton College Bulldogs in Wilson, North Carolina. Because of the threat of rain, the first game will be played Saturday, February 21st.
