Box Score North Greenville suffered a 3-1 loss to the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, North Carolina. After a one-sided opening set, the Crusaders fought back to win the second set to even things up. However, competitive third and fourth sets resulted in a UMO victory. Brandon Baker put together another solid performance, posting 17 kills, 49 total attacks, and 8 digs.
Set one was a struggle for the Crusaders as Mount Olive would dominate the set early, jumping out to an 11-4 lead. NGU would put up a fight late in the set, but UMO would ultimately take it with a one-sided score of 25-14.
NGU would carry the momentum early in set two to lead 9-7. The two teams would alternate points until Mount Olive put together a 4-0 run to lead 19-18. From there, the Crusaders would close out the set with a 7-1 run to win the second set with a score of 25-21.
Once again, North Greenville would take the momentum early on, posting several small runs to take a 13-7 lead. The Trojans responded with a 4-0 run to cut their deficit to two points. North Greenville seemed to have the set in hand with a 23-18 lead, but UMO would post an 8-1 run to end the set, taking it 26-24.
After Mount Olive took the first three points to begin set four, NGU fought back to score eight of the next eleven points. With the score tied at 18-18, the Trojans would put together a 5-2 run to make the score 23-20 in favor of UMO. North Greenville would score the next three to tie the score, but Mount Olive would score the final two points to win the set 25-23 and take the match.
The Crusaders will face the Bulldogs of Barton College tomorrow in Wilson, North Carolina.
