North Greenville Kicks Off Season With Win Over Nationally-Ranked Nova Southeastern

North Greenville kicked off the 2020 season with a 15-9 win over the 16th ranked Sharks of Nove Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The Crusaders posted 15 runs, 12 hits, 2 errors, and 7 runners left on base. John Michael Faile began his sophomore season with a bang, hitting 2 home runs and driving in three.

John Michael Faile was the first to put the Crusaders on the board with a solo home run to left center field. However, Nova Southeastern would respond in the bottom of the inning with four runs including two RBI doubles. After a scoreless 2nd inning, the Crusaders tied the game in the top of the 3rd with an RBI triple by Douglas Angeli followed by a two-run homer by Faile to tie the game at 4-4. The Crusaders would then take the lead in the top of the 4th when Gehrig Octavio singled down the left field line to drive in two runs. Octavio would eventually steal home to add a third run in the inning. The Sharks would fight back with a run in the 4th and two runs in the 5th to tie the game once again at 7-7. The top of the 6th would prove to be a big inning for North Greenville. Five runs would come in to score including two 2-RBI singles by Jordan Holladay and Brady West and an RBI double by Josh Senter. NSU added a run in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI single. The Crusaders added to their lead with a 3-run home run by Jordan Holladay to lead 15-8. The Sharks would add one last run in the 9th, but Duncan Callahan would strike out the final batter to end the game.

NGU will head to Boca Raton, Florida tomorrow to face the Lynn University Fighting Knights.
