Box Score NGU suffered a 3-1 loss to the Royals of Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina. After dropping the opening set by a wide margin, North Greenville responded by taking the second set to even things up. However, Queens would go on to take the final two sets to clinch the match. Jackson Gilbert led in kills with 16 while also leading in digs with 12.
Queens began the opening set with a 6-2 run. Leading 7-4, the Royals would put the set away early with a 10-0 run to take a 17-4 lead. NGU would fight back to score six of the final ten points, but QU would easily take set one with a score of 25-14.
The Royals put together a repeat performance to start the second set, getting ahead with an 11-4 lead. However, the Crusaders would storm right back by going on an 18-6 run for a 22-17 lead. After two straight points for the Royals, North Greenville closed out the set by taking three of the final points to win it 25-20.
A competitive third set began with an 8-4 lead for Queens. NGU would eventually come back to take an 13-12 lead as well as a 14-13 lead, but Queens would follow that up with a 7-1 run to lead 20-15. The Crusaders would again put up a fight to close out the set, but the Royals would ultimately take the set 25-23.
Set four began with Queens taking the momentum to lead 15-7. North Greenville fought back to nearly even things out, taking back the momentum with an 8-4 run. With QU leading 21-20, the two teams would alternate points until the Royals closed out the match with two straight to win 25-23.
NGU will head to Due West, South Carolina on Friday, January 31st to face the Erskine Flying Fleet.
