Box Score Newberry, S.C. – Records fell and North Greenville women’s lacrosse picked up a big win over Newberry College of the South Atlantic Conference on Wednesday, throttling the Wolves 18-3 in non-conference action.
Rachel Kellogg set a new program best on Wednesday as she reached 200 career draw controls. She now owns the season and career highs in the category. Kellogg also got the scoring started for the Crusaders as she took an Aly Estes pass and made it 1-0 less than 30-seconds into the game.
Kellogg’s goal was the first of six unanswered for the Crusaders including two from Hanna Hawkins. Kellogg tacked on two more scores along with one from Maegan Easler before the Wolves added their first of the night to make it 6-1 with 17:18 left in the first period.
NGU put up five more goals in the first half while the Wolves added one. North Greenville carried a nine goal, 11-2 advantage into intermission.
Kellogg once again got the Crusaders off to a fast start in the second half. The junior nabbed the first draw control of the second period and scored her 56th goal of the season only 18-seconds in to make it 12-2.
Newberry answered with a goal of their own less than a minute later to cut NGU’s lead back down to nine at 12-3. NGU’s defenders clamped down on the Newberry offense for the remainder of the game. The Crusaders finished with 13 caused turnovers led by Kellogg who had five. Sydney Taylor kept the Wolves from doing any more damage, saving seven NC shots.
NGU Got goals from six different players in the final 25-minutes including another from Easler who finished with two. Jillian Chiesa and Bridgett Sewell also got in on the scoring action along from one from Aly Estes.
Leaders
Rachel Kellogg led North Greenville in goals and caused turnovers with seven and five.
Aly Estes finished with a goal and a team-high four groundballs. Hanna Hawkins finished with three goals while Brenis Napoli had two on the night.
