NGU Begins Tournament Play With Win Over Emmanuel

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville began postseason play with an 8-3 victory in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Crusaders totalled eight runs on fourteen hits, and went 6-18 with runners in scoring position. Utah Jones had an impressive game, going 4 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Innings 1-3 (5-1 NGU)

North Greenville began the tournament by starting Tucker Burgess. After a scoreless top of the 1st, NGU quickly went to work and scored two runs in the bottom of the inning including an RBI groundout by John Michael Faile followed by another RBI groundout by Adam Sasser. With Burgess pitching a three up, three down top of the 2nd, the Crusaders added to their lead with three more runs in the bottom of the 2nd by way of a two-RBI double by Lex Tuten and an RBI single by Utah Jones. Emmanuel was able to get on the board in the top of the 3rd with an RBI groundout.

Innings 4-6 (8-3 NGU)

Pitching took over for awhile as the top and bottom of the 4th as well as the top of the 5th resulted in three up, three down innings. However, North Greenville scored a run in the bottom of the 5th when Jared Williams drove in a run. After the Lions responded with two runs in the top of the 6th, Jack Morris ripped an RBI double down the left field line. Faile would add another run with an RBI single through the left side.

Innings 7-9 (7-3 NGU)

Matthew Dailey entered the game in relief of Burgess. He would allow a leadoff walk, but a double play followed by a strikeout retired the side without any damage. Dailey would go on to pitch a scoreless 8th inning. Daniel Kight pitched the top of the 9th. He would allow a hit but struck out the final two batters to secure the win.

Individual

Utah Jones had an impressive game, going 4 for 5 at the plate, scoring 2 runs, and recording an RBI.

Lex Tuten posted 2 hits, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs, and 2 walks.

Tucker Burgess pitched 6.0 strong innings, allowing just 3 earned runs and striking out 7 while not giving up a walk.

NGU will return to action tomorrow at 3:00 PM to face the Erskine Flying Fleet.
