NGU Dominant in Doubleheader Against Belmont Abbey

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville began the weekend conference series against Belmont Abbey with 18-8 and 13-4 victories. The dreary weather didn't slow down NGU as they would record 31 runs and 28 hits for the day. Jeremy Whitehead collected five hits for the day while Jeffrey Chandler hit a grand slam in game one. Michael Giacone and Tucker Burgess were the winning pitchers for the day.

Game One (18-8 NGU)

After two scoreless innings to begin the game, North Greenville would get on the board first in the 3rd with an RBI infield single by Jeremy Whitehead. Utah Jones would later hit a sacrifice fly to get NGU a 2-0 lead. Adam Sasser followed up with a two run home run to center field. North Greenville would continue to put up runs in the 4th by way of an RBI bunt single by Whitehead, an RBI infield single by Utah Jones, and a grand slam by Jeffrey Chandler to give the Crusaders a 10-0 lead. Belmont Abbey responded in the top of the 5th with four runs including a three run homer to center field. NGU would get a run back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a throwing error that allowed Josh Senter to score. After a scoreless 6th inning, BAC put up two runs on a single to center field. North Greenville would again respond in the bottom of the inning with a stolen base and an RBI single by Utah Jones. In the bottom of the 8th, NGU would continue pour it on with five more runs in the inning including a an RBI double by Sean Parsons, a two RBI double by Josh Senter, and a two run home run down the left field line by Jack Morris. Belmont Abbey would close out the game with two RBI singles in the 9th, but North Greenville would ultimately win 18-8. Michael Giacone earned the win, and is now 5-0 for the season.

Game Two (13-4 NGU)

NGU made quick work of the 1st inning with four runs to begin the game including a sacrifice fly by Adam Sasser, a two RBI single by John Michael Faile, and an RBI fielder's choice by Lex Tuten. In the bottom of the 2nd, Jared Williams grounded out but brought in a run to make the score 5-0. Another run would be added in the bottom of the 3rd by way of a throwing error, which allowed Sasser to score. After three perfect innings by starter Tucker Burgess, a solo shot by Belmont Abbey's Mason Dodd ended the trend. However, North Greenville would respond with two runs in the bottom of the 4th by an RBI down the left field line by Jared Whitehead and an RBI single to center field by Williams. BAC continued to put up a fight in the top of the 5th when Richard DeLaCruz hit a bases-clearing double to score three runs. NGU would get a run back in the bottom of the inning as a result of an RBI sacrifice bunt by Josh Senter. After a scoreless top of the 6th, North Greenville would cap off the day with four runs in the bottom of the inning including an RBI single through the right side by Utah Jones, an RBI single to center field by Sasser, another RBI single through the right side by John Michael Faile, and a second RBI fielder's choice by Tuten. Tucker Burgess took the win.

Jeremy Whitehead led in total hits for the day with 5 including 2 triples.

Jeffrey Chandler collected 4 hits including a grand slam.

Michael Giacone pitched 5.0 strong innings without allowing an earned run.
