Box Score Tigerville, SC - North Greenville began a weekend series over the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University with a 15-1 victory. The Crusaders combined for five doubles, two triples, and three home runs while hitting an impressive 7-12 (.583) with runners in scoring position. Tucker Burgess took the win to go 6-1 for the season while Jared Williams recorded both triples and drove in two runs.
Innings 1-3 (2-0 NGU)
Both starters were able to begin the game on a positive note with both teams in the 1st inning going three up, three down. SWU drew a hit by pitch while the Crusaders were able to get two runner on base, but neither team was able to come away with a run in the 2nd. After Burgess retired the Warriors in order in the top of the 3rd, NGU entered the run column in the bottom of the inning with an RBI triple to left field by Jared Williams and an RBI groundout by Utah Jones.
Innings 4-6 (13-1 NGU)
Southern Wesleyan would cut their deficit to a run by way of an RBI double in the top of the 4th. However, Sean Parsons would answer for North Greenville with a three run homer to right center to put NGU up 5-1 in the bottom of the inning. After another 1-2-3 inning by Burgess in the top of the 5th, RBI doubles by Adam Sasser and Jeffrey Chandler followed by an RBI single by John Michael Faile added three runs to the Crusader lead. Burgess would run into some trouble in the top of the 6th. With the bases loaded and two outs, a line drive came back to strike Burgess, but he would collect himself and get the ball to first for the out to complete his strong outing. NGU struck one again in the bottom of the inning with five runs including an RBI single by Jeremy Whitehead, another RBI triple by Williams, an RBI groundout by Jones, and a solo home run by Sasser.
Innings 7-9 (15-1 NGU)
Ethan Struthers relieved Burgess in the top of the 7th, pitching a 1-2-3 inning. NGU would also go three up, three down in the inning. Nate Roof pitched the 8th inning, allowing a leadoff single but finishing the inning with a double play and a strikeout. After a leadoff double by Dawson Price to begin the bottom of the 8th, Jones connected for a two run home run to right center to add two runs to North Greenville's run column. Caleb Murphy closed the game out in the 9th, allowing just one hit and no runs.
Individual
Jared Williams put together a rare 2-triple performance, and also drove in a run.
Sean Parsons recorded 2 hits including a 3-run home run.
John Michael Faile went 3 for 4 at the plate including a double.
