Tigerville – Johnny Worthy set a single-game record with two blocked punts while Chauncy Haney totaled 17-tackles in a 42-21 loss to West Georgia on Saturday night in Younts Stadium.

West Georgia scored 28-answered points in the first half to put North Greenville at a four score disadvantage as the game approached halftime. The Crusaders effectively ruined UWG’s aspirations of a shutout in the final seconds of the second quarter when Bryce Fields found Kyle Belack in the left corner of the end-zone to make it 28-7.

North Greenville’s first score of the game capitalized on Johnny Worthy’s first blocked put which earned NGU possession inside the West Georgia 20-yard line. Kyle Belack added to his team-high touchdown total with a pair of scores for NGU on three catches.

North Greenville briefly turned the momentum of the game early in the third quarter, taking the opening kickoff of the second half and punching it in. The Crusaders marched 48-yards on six plays capped by the second Fields to Belack TD pass to cut the deficit to just 14-points. The quick-strike was set up by a 51-yard kickoff return by Dre Williams.

The Wolves were held scores by NGU’s defense in the third quarter but rebounded in the final 15-minutes with two touchdown drives. North Greenville got one more score at the 12:50 mark when Ethan Alexander took back Worthy’s second blocked punt of the game, making it 35-21 at the moment.

West Georgia answered with its second score of the quarter on the ensuing drive with a 10-play 75-yard drive. The scoring opportunity was finished off by Willie Candler who ran it in from three yards out. Candler finished with 327-yards through the air and four scores while running it for 41-yards and a score.

North Greenville was led by Harold Hilton on offense who had 72-yards on three yards while Belack scored the only touchdowns for North Greenville. Haney tacked on two tackles for a loss and four quarterback hurries. Caleb Bynum had nine tackles while Dantevian Byrd had eight tackles and accounted for North Greenville’s only sack.

North Greenville is back on the road with a trip to Rome, Georgia scheduled for next Saturday to take on Shorter College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 PM.
