Crusaders Victorious Over Lees-McRae in Three Sets

The North Greenville Crusaders ended a long stretch of six road matches and just one home match with a conference win over the Lees-McRae Bobcats in Banner Elk, North Carolina. With the win, NGU now holds an even conference record of 1-1. Aaron Campbell led with ten kills.

Set 1

North Greenville was able to get off to a fast start by taking seven of the first ten points, but Lees-McRae took the momentum and the lead with a 6-0 run. NGU would work to tie the set once again at 10-10. After several additional ties, the Crusaders would end the set with an 8-1 run to take it 25-19.

Set 2

The second set proved to be no issue as North Greenville did not trail at any point throughout the set. After leading 8-4, the Crusaders would later put together a 6-0 run to lead 15-6. The two teams would trade points from there, but NGU ultimately winning the set 25-18.

Set 3

A very competitive third set would see the score tied fourteen times. LMC jumped slightly ahead early, but North Greenville fought back to lead 10-7. Trailing 12-9, the Bobcats put together a 5-0 run to lead 14-12. However, the Crusaders fought right back by going on a 5-1 run and taking a 17-15 lead. Extra points would end up being required. Lees-McRae had an opportunity to force a fourth set, but NGU went on to score the final three points to take the set 27-25 for the victory.

Individual

Aaron Campbell led the way with 10 kills and 22 total attacks. He also posted 3 block assists, a service ace, and a dig.

Jackson Gilbert put up 8 kills, 18 total attacks, 5 digs, 3 service aces, and a block assist.

Jake Boldog provided 26 assists, 4 digs, and 3 block assists.

NGU will return to Hayes Gymnasium to face the Bluefield College Rams on Tuesday, January 29th.
