North Greenville outlasted by Belmont Abbey

Tigerville, S.C. – NGU fell to 4-3 in Conference Carolinas play on Thursday night after a 14-6 loss to Belmont Abbey College.

The Crusaders and Abbey started the game off 1-1 with Jillian Cheisa equaling Abbey’s first goal 10-minutes into the game. The Crusaders from North Carolina then gained full control of the game with seven unanswered goals to take an 8-1 edge. Cheisa tossed in her second goal of the game but NGU trailed 9-2 heading into halftime.

The Crusaders opened the second half with a quick burst, scoring three consecutive goals to cut the lead to four. Sarah Smith cut the lead to six while Brenis Napoli added back-to-back scores which made it 9-5.

Belmont Abbey proved too strong in the end though, adding five more goals in the final 20-minutes while NGU found the back of the cage just once more. The Crusaders scored on North Greenville three goals in succession to extend their lead to 12-5. Sarah Smith added a sixth goal for NGU with 7:18 left in the game.

Sydney Taylor finished the game with 13-saves in the net while Sydney Taylor contributed two ground balls. Three different players collected two ground balls including Monica Colwell and Kaitlin Yenson.

North Greenville will take on Catawba College on April 12th at 5pm.
