Crusaders use big first half to ground Falcons

Tigerville, S.C. – Austin Dixon scored six goals while Braeden Dixon collected 11-saves in the cage as NGU surged past Pfeiffer University 18-8.

North Greenville improved to 7-7 and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas play after Saturday’s league victory. The Crusaders also got four goals from Jake Foster and three from Ethan Landreth in the win. Zach Randolph led the team with four caused turnovers while Logan Bryant collected 16 grounders while winning 22 of 25 face-offs.

Pfeiffer scored out of the gates to put NGU in a 1-0 hole a little less than three minutes into the game. North Greenville answered with 10-unanswered scores led by Dixon and Foster who found the net three times each. North Greenville scored twice more in the first half including a laser from Hunter Burgett in the final seconds to take a 12-2 edge into halftime.

The Falcons opened the second half with a flurry of goals, scoring the first three goals of the third period to cut the lead to just seven. The Crusaders answered with the next two as Dixon and Landrith added insurance. The Falcons would tack on three more scores in the final 17-minutes of the game but NGU answered with four more scores including a final nail by Dixon with five minutes left in the game to put the game away.

The Crusaders will be in action again on April 19th against Mars Hill before wrapping up the 2017 regular season on April 22nd at Lees-McRae. A win over the Bears could lock up a first round playoff game in Tigerville.
