Crusaders storm past Valkyries to earn third league win

Tigerville, S.C. – Rachel Kellogg scored four goals while Sydney Taylor collected six saves en route to a 17-7 win over Conference Carolinas foe Converse College.

The Crusaders jumped out to a four-goal lead before the Valkyries stormed back to even the tally, scoring three un-answered to do the job. Rachel Kellogg broke the tie with 5:41 left in the half to give NGU a 5-4 lead.

Kellogg’s goal was the first of four goals for North Greenville to end the half on a 4-0 run. The Crusaders gained an 8-4 advantage with goals from Jillian Cheisa, Madison Boudreau and Sarah Smith.

The Crusaders picked up in second half where they left off in the first half. Boudreau scored less than a minute into the game to extend North Greenville’s lead to five while Aly Estes added a goal at 28:47. The Crusaders stormed out to a 15-4 lead before the Valkyries found the net for the fifth time.

Aubrie Lauderdale scored the first of two consecutive goals for Converse to cut North Greenville’s lead to nine. The Crusaders responded quickly as Emily Colson found the back of the net to put NGU back up by 10-goals. Brenis Napoli added one more for NGU with 2:24 left in the game to match the Valkyries final goal of the game with 1:04 left.

The Crusaders improved to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas play. Next on tap for NGU will be a meeting with Lees-McRae College at 2pm on April 1st.
