Crusaders struggle offensively in loss to Mount Olive

Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville men’s volleyball dropped a conference match to Mount Olive on Friday night, falling 3-0 to the Trojans.

North Greenville had few answers for the Trojans who hit .436 on the evening. Mount Olive had 43-kills and just nine errors through three sets of action. North Greenville on the other hand struggled to get anything going against the Trojan’s front line that is one of the best in the league. The Crusaders hit just .092 while the Trojans finished with 19 total blocks.

The Crusaders found themselves in an early hole as Mount Olive cruised to a 25-17 win in the opening frame. The second set was close in the opening points, but the Trojans began to pull away late. A 19-14 lead for UMO was cut to just four after a bad set by the Trojans setter but NGU could only muster one more point on a kill from Grayson Lawrence, falling 25-16 to go down 2-0 to the league leading Trojans.

North Greenville continued to battle in the third set, looking to extend the game to a fourth game. The Crusaders turned in their best offensive effort of the day, pounding out 15-kills but the Trojans matched with their best of the day with 17. NGU trailed by as many as four, but cut the lead to just three with a UMO service error. The Trojans ended the hope of a comeback though on the next serve after an attack error put them over the top with a 25-21 victory.

Grayson Lawrence led NGU with eight kills on the day. Aaron Campbell had six while Matthew McManaway finished with five. Alexander Schinzing finished with 25-assists.

NGU fell to 7-14 overall and 6-7 in league play. The Crusaders will travel to Gaffney on March 29th to take on Limestone at 7pm.
