North Greenville tops Lincoln Memorial

Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville women’s lacrosse scored its eighth win of the season Wednesday night, downing the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters 7-4.

Hannah Hawkins and Monica Colwell led NGU with two goals each. Colwell led the Crusaders with eight ground balls while Taylor Kennington had NGU’s only assist. Sydney Taylor racked up 13-saves in net for the Crusaders, earning her eighth win of the season.

Emily Colson got the day started for NGU with a goal at the 27:37 mark, giving North Greenville a 1-0. The Railsplitters answered with a pair of unanswered scores to take the 2-1 lead with a little over 18-minutes left in the first half.

North Greenville countered with its own streak, finding the back of the net three-consecutive times to take a 4-2 edge. Taylor Kennington would even the score at two with her only goal of the day while back-to-back one timers from Colwell would extend NGU’s lead to two.

One more goal from LMU would make the score 4-3 at halftime. The Crusaders out-shot the Railsplitters 11-10 in the opening period while forcing 14, Lincoln Memorial turnovers.

Rebecca Bagwell extended the North Greenville advantage to two goals with a score at 18:11 while Hannah Hawkins’ first goal of the day extended the lead to three. The Railsplitters would tack on one more with 9:24 left on the clock but Hannah Hawkins’ second goal of the period would put the game out of reach as the Crusaders locked down on defense for the final 8:56.

North Greenville improved to 8-4 on the season after the Wednesday night victory. The Crusaders will host Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon at 2pm.
