Crusaders fall to Belmont Abbey in final regular season contest

Belmont, N.C. – Belmont Abbey’s big first half lead stood on Saturday afternoon downing North Greenville 19-5 in the final regular season of 2016 for the Crusaders.

NGU found itself down 12-3 at halftime. Abbey gained a 2-0 edge over the visiting Crusaders before Taylor Hames’ goal with 23:02 left on the first half clock cut the lead to one goal.

BAC would then score five unanswered goals to take a 7-1 edge. Emily Colson scored North Greenville’s second goal of the period while Monica Colwell found the back of the net to cut the lead to 9-3 later in the period. Abbey would score three more goals in the final five minutes to take a nine-point lead at halftime.

North Greenville scored first in the second half, as Colwell’s second of the day cutting the deficit to 12-4. The two squads would then trade points as Natalie Dufresne scored for NGU.

Dufresne’s goal would be the final goal of the half for the Crusaders while Belmont Abbey would tack on six more in the final 18-minutes.

North Greenville fell to 9-8 overall and 4-4 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders will wait for their pairing in the first round of the Conference Carolinas playoffs.
