Tigerville, S.C.— The North Greenville Men's Volleyball team is still searching for its first win of the season after falling to Belmont Abbey 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-23) Tuesday night in Hayes Gymnasium.

A 6-2 run marked an early lead for the Crusaders from the north, but NGU quickly regrouped to cut into the advantage. The Crusaders trailed 9-7 before snapping off a run of their own, as Alexander Schinzing placed a service ace between two BAC defenders. A Luuga Vailu'u kill off of a Belmont Abbey ball handling error would cap the run, as NGU grabbed an 11-9 lead while forcing BAC to take a timeout. NGU trailed 22-18 late in the set, but a kill and a block would pull NGU to within two. A late surge however from Belmont would put the game away, as the 21-25 final would give the BAC Crusaers a 1-0 set lead.

NGU would fall in the second set as the upper classmen laiden Crusaders from Belmont Abbey would earn the 25-19 win, using a late run in an otherwise closely contested second set. Luuga Vailu'u led NGU with seven kills in the second set. North Greenville rebounded quickly from the set two loss, taking a 9-4 lead in the third set, on a Matthew McManaway kill.

North Greenville continued to control the third set, but Abbey would put together a rally, eventually evening the score at 20-20. NGU would remain in control, as Connor Rhine would deliver a well-timed kill to make the score 21-20. Abbey would gift North Greenville another point on the next serve with a ball handling error that gave North Greenville a 22-20 lead. The final few points of the game would not go North Greenville's way however.

Belmont Abbey would take a timeout to regroup, before going on a 5-1 run to put North Greenville away, blanking the Crusaders three sets to none. The Crusaders were led by Vailu'u who finished the game with a career high 12 kills. His 12 kills were also a season for North Greenville. Matthew McManaway finished with seven kills while also tallying a solo block and two assists. Alexander Schinzing finished the night with 24 assists and two services aces while Dustin King led NGU with nine digs.

The Crusaders fell to 0-6 overall on the season and 0-4 in Conference Carolinas play. NGU will be back on the court Friday night when the Crusaders host Coker University at 7pm in Hayes Gymnasium.
