Box Score
Due West, S.C.—The North Greenville volleyball team wrapped
up the 2013 regular season on Friday evening, falling to Erskine College 3-1 on
the road.
The loss to the Flying Fleet put the Crusaders at 7-26
overall, and 5-13 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders trailed early,
2-0 riding the play of Caitlin Bullock who pounded out 15 kills during the
first two frames, and Kelly Sullivan who added seven of her own. Erskine took
the first two sets 25-22 and 25-19.
North Greenville would not go quietly however, as the
Crusaders cut the Fleet set lead in half, taking the third set 25-22. Yomi
Adeyeye recorded five kills during the set, while Hannah Helbert added three of
her own. Adeyeye ended the game with 15 smashes to lead the Crusaders while
Hannah Helbert pounded out 12 of her own. The Crusaders downed Erskine 25-22 to
cut the lead to 2-1.
The Fleet proved too strong for NGU, taking the final set 25-15.
Erskine hit an impressive .484 in the final set, as the Crusaders hit at just a
.038 clip in the final frame. Bullock finished with a game high 20 kills, for
Erskine. Defensively the Crusaders were led by Megan Steading who added 14 digs
to her season total, while Helbert, and Taylor Dupes were in double digits as
well with 12, and 11 respectively. Rachel Burts led NGU at the net with three
block assists while Gabby Sehres added North Greenville’s only solo block of
the game.
Unlike previously reported, the Crusaders are still able to
make the Conference Carolinas playoffs. A Limestone win over Pfeiffer on
Saturday afternoon would give the Crusaders the 8th seed. Both teams
would finish with 5-13 records, but the Crusaders own the tie-breaker, having
gone 2-0 over the Falcons this season.
The first serve between the Falcons and Saints is scheduled for
12pm in Misenheimer, North Carolina. Live Stats and video can be found by
