Belmont, N.C.—The North Greenville volleyball team fell to 1-4
in Conference Carolinas action this season after dropping a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13,
25-18) decision to Belmont Abbey College Friday night, kicking off a weekend
double-header for NGU.
The Crusaders of Belmont were stellar on offense connecting
on 45 of 102 kill attempts (.314 percentage). NGU struggled at the net hitting
at a .069 clip. The Crusaders were led by Rebekah Mayes who led the team with 8
kills, Mayes also had 10 digs on defense. Megan Steading led the Crusaders with
13 digs while Elizabeth James led the Crusaders with 16 assists.
The Crusaders of Belmont were led by the Shellenberg sisters
who accounted for 27 of the Crusaders 45 kills. Hannah Shellenberg also paced
Belmont with a game high 13 digs. Samantah Del Toro was strong on defense for
NGU with two blocks and 2 block assists while Kendra Meek had one of each.
The Crusaders will travel to Hartsville, South Carolina
tomorrow for a fourth straight conference match. This time against Coker
College.
