Brevard, N.C.—A late inning rally lifted Brevard College past North Greenville Tuesday afternoon as the Tornadoes won a 7-6 decision over the Crusaders in the only meeting between the two squads scheduled for this season.

The Crusaders controlled the momentum for most the game and carried a 6-5 lead into the 8^th inning. NGU jumped on top in the first inning after Adam Taylor scored Markus Duckworth on an RBI groundout to first base. The Tornadoes evened the tally at 1 in the 2^nd inning.

The Crusaders regained the advantage in the 4^th inning on Allen Staton’s two run blast, scoring David Frazier pushed the count to 3-1, in favor of NGU. It was Staton’s 3^rd home run of the season and his 36^th and 37^th RBI.

Not to be outdone, the Tornadoes answered NGU’s 2 run 4^th with 3 runs of their own. The Tornadoes scored 3 runs on 3 hits, and were aided by an NGU error. The 3 run 4^th gave Brevard its first lead of the game, a 4-3 advantage.

NGU nabbed its original advantage in the 6^th inning. Frank Polion’s 2 out singled platted Derek Fulmer and David Frazier, and gave the Crusaders a 5-4 lead. Polino finished the day 1-4 with 2 RBI. North Greenville added to its lead in the 7^th inning after holding Brevard scoreless in the 8^th. Markus Duckworth, who was 2-3 on the day with a double and 2 runs scored, once again took advantage of an Adam Taylor RBI groundout, to give NGU a 6-4 lead.

The Tornadoes saved their best for the final 3 innings play however. Brevard tied pulled to within 1 after scoring a solo run in the 7^th. With the score 6-5, Brevards Champ Stewart tied the game with a solo shot to center field. Brevard would later receive an RBI single from Tarron Robinson giving the Tornadoes a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the 8^th.

The Crusaders would threaten in the 9^th, but stranded runners on the corners, as Brevard pitched out of the jam to take the midweek victory. North Greenville fell to 25-17 on the season after Tuesday loss, but remain at 14-7 in conference. The Crusaders will get 3 days of rest before heading to Mount Olive for a crucial Conference Carolinas matchup with the league leading Trojans.
