Hickory, N.C.—The North Greenville baseball team returned to its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, taking both games of a twin bill with Lenoir Rhyne, 9-4, and 14-1, the day after dropping the season opener to the Bears.

The Cruaders busted out of their offensive slumps from Friday very early in game one scoring 2 runs in the first inning, both with 2 outs. Adam Taylor got the two out rally started by reaching base on a hit by pitch. Taylor would advance to second on a balk and score on double by Derek Fulmer. Fulmer later scored on a passed ball, extending NGU’s lead to two runs.

The Crusaders added five more runs in the 5^th inning, extending their lead to 7-2, and two more runs in the seventh. Lenoir Rhyne strung together a two run rally in the 8^th, but stranded 3.

At the plate, Derek Fulmer had his best game of the season thus far, going 2-5 with 2 RBI’s and three runs scored. Both of Fulmer’s hits were doubles. David Frazier also had a solid game 1, pounding out two hits in five plate appearances, platting 2 RBI’s while scoring 2 runs.

Ryan Woodring took the mound for his first start of the season for NGU, picking up his first win. Woodring pitched 6 solid innings allowing just one earned run. He allowed 3 free passes but struck out a season high 9 batters, more than any pitcher so far for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders second game was even more impressive from the plate, and equally impressive defensively. The Scored 14 runs while only allowing 1 earned.

NGU is now 4-1 on the season with a game against Anderson coming up on Tuesday. The first pitch between the Crusaders and Trojans is scheduled for 2pm in Tigerville.
