Due West, S.C.—Freshman Kendra Meek tallied 8 kills and
Kaitlyn Harris notched 12 defensive digs but the Crusaders once again came up
short in their bid for a conference victory after dropping a Tuesday match with
Erskine College 3-0.
Meek was the team leader in kills Tuesday night while Rebekah
Mayes added seven kills. The Crusaders fell behind early in the first set 10-3
but fought back to pull to within two of the Flying Fleet. The run was short
lived however as Erskine rallied to take a 25-15 set one win.
In set two, the Fleet surged to a 6-0 advantage. The Crusaders battled but a 6-1 run put
Erskine over the top taking the set 25-14. In set three, Erskine once again sprinted out of the gate to
take an 8-0 lead. North Greenville would not surrender however. After a slow
start the Crusaders cut the lead to four, but the Flying Fleet sealed the
straight sets win with a 25-21 victory in the final set.
During Tuesday’s offensive showcase, the Fleet registered 38
kills on 100 attempts. The Fleet ended the night with a .300 hitting
percentage. The Crusaders struggled on the offensive side of the net tallying
just 25 kills on 87 attempts.
The Loss to Erskine College drops NGU to 6-10 on the season and 0-6 in conference play.
NGU will have one day off to prepare for a stretch of three matches in three
days. NGU will travel to Atlanta on Thursday for a match with Clark Atlanta at
6pm. On Saturday, the Crusaders will return to Hayes Gymnasium for a tri-match
with Pfeiffer University and Benedict College.
