The North Greenville Trailblazers closed out their weekend in Aiken, South Carolina with a split on Saturday, defeating the Falcons of the University of Montevallo in four sets before falling to undefeated USC Aiken in three. North Greenville finished the day with a 4-4 overall record.
North Greenville opened the day with a 3-1 victory over Montevallo. The Trailblazers edged the Falcons 25-23 in the opening set before Montevallo responded with a 25-20 win in the second. NGU regained control with a 25-22 victory in the third and then dominated the fourth, 25-12, to finish off the match.
Samantha Ball led the North Greenville attack with 16 kills while hitting .308 and added 13 digs for a double-double. Larkin Pham also recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs while adding two service aces. Karson Haley finished with nine kills on a .292 hitting percentage, and Peyton Taylor contributed with eight kills and seven digs.
The Trailblazers returned to the court later in the afternoon against unbeaten USC Aiken. The Pacers took the opening set 25-19, but the final two sets were much tighter. However, USC Aiken would ultimately take both of them to finish the afternoon early.
Fiddelke and Haley led North Greenville offensively with nine kills each. Haley hit a team-best .250Â while Fiddelke hit .227 and added three block assists. Pham contributed with seven kills and a service ace, while Reagan Funderburk finished with five kills and three block assists.
Samantha Ball led the Trailblazer defense with 17 digs, while Gentry and Sherman each collected nine and Teal Phelan added eight. Allison Ball distributed 18 assists, while Sherman finished with 14 assists and a match-high three service aces.
NGU will return to action on Wednesday, September 9th to take on the Tornado of King University in Bristol, Tennessee.
