The North Greenville Trailblazers fell to Southern Wesleyan University in straight sets Saturday afternoon at in Central, South Carolina, taking the three sets 25-21, 25-18 and 25-21. The loss moved North Greenville to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in Conference Carolinas play, while Southern Wesleyan improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
North Greenville started things off with what would become their most competitive set, recording 14 kills on 40 attempts and hitting .200. Southern Wesleyan countered with 15 kills and just two attack errors for a .351 hitting percentage, allowing the Warriors to take the opening frame 25-21.
The Trailblazers struggled to get things going in the second set. recording just 10 kills along with eight errors for an .041 hitting percentage, while Southern Wesleyan hit .224 with 14 kills and three errors. The Warriors earned a 25-18 victory and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
North Greenville continued to battle in the third set, but Southern Wesleyan once again pulled away for a 25-21 victory. The Warriors finished things with 14 kills and a .234 attack percentage, while the Trailblazers recorded nine kills and hit .060.
Anna Fiddelke led the North Greenville attack with 10 kills and added a solo block and a block assist. Samantha Ball finished with seven kills and four service aces along with a team-leading 15 digs. Karson Haley and Peyton Taylor each contributed five kills, with Taylor adding 11 digs. Elise Smith recorded four kills and a block assist.
Allison Ball led the Trailblazers with 14 assists while adding seven digs and an ace. Madison Sherman finished with 11 assists, seven digs and an ace, while Teal Phelan contributed nine digs, two assists and two service aces.
NGU will return to action on Tuesday, September 15th against the Converse Valkyries at Hayes Gymnasium.
