The North Greenville Trailblazers opened Conference Carolinas play in dominant fashion Wednesday evening, sweeping King University 3-0 in Bristol, Tennessee. NGU controlled the opening two sets before holding off the Tornado in a tight third set, winning 25-10, 25-13 and 25-22. The victory improved North Greenville to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas play, while King fell to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
North Greenville set the tone with a solid offensive performance in the opening set. The Trailblazers recorded 13 kills with just two attack errors on 30 attempts, hitting .367 while holding King to three kills and a negative hitting percentage to start things off with a 25-10 opening-set victory.
NGU remained in control during the second set, again producing 13 kills with only two errors. The Trailblazers hit .355 in the set while King committed eight attack errors and hit just .031. North Greenville pulled away for a 25-13 victory to take a 2-0 advantage.
King produced its best offensive set of the night in the third, recording 14 kills, but North Greenville's defense helped close things out. The Tornado committed 11 attack errors in the set and were held to a .067 hitting percentage. NGU fought through to earn a 25-22 victory and complete the straight-set win.
Samantha Ball and Anna Fiddelke led the North Greenville attack with nine kills each. Ball did not commit an attack error on 21 attempts, finishing with a .429 hitting percentage, while Fiddelke hit .444 with only one error on 18 attempts. Fiddelke also contributed three total blocks, including one solo. Karson Haley added eight kills while hitting .304 and recorded three block assists, while Peyton Taylor finished with five kills and 10 digs.
Allison Ball directed the offense with a match-high 22 assists and added 11 digs for a double-double.
North Greenville will return to action on Friday, September 11th against the Lions of Emmanuel University in Franklin Springs, Georgia.
