The North Greenville Trailblazers put together a dominant day to sweep Belmont Abbey in a doubleheader at Crusader Field, taking game one 6-1 and game two 5-2 in Belmont, North Carolina.
North Greenville came out strong in game one, scoring two runs in the 1st inning on a two-run home run by Haylee Whitesides. The Trailblazers added two more runs in the 2nd with a two-RBI single by Emily Blackwell and extended the lead in the 3rd with an RBI single by Maddie Stone. NGU capped off the scoring with another solo home run by Whitesides in the 7th to secure the 6-1 victory.
Game two saw North Greenville break things open in the 3rd inning with three runs, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Haylee Whitesides and an RBI single by Ansley Fowler. The Trailblazers continued to add on with a run in the 5th and another in the 6th. Belmont Abbey attempted a late rally with two runs in the 6th, but NGU held on to complete the sweep with a 5-2 win.
Haylee Whitesides led the way across both games, going 5-for-8 with 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored, including three home runs. Emily Blackwell added 2 hits and 2 RBIs, while Ansley Fowler recorded 5 hits and an RBI in a strong performance at the plate.
In the circle, Haylee Whitesides earned the game one win with a complete game, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 8. Karley Green followed with a complete game in game two, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 5 to secure the doubleheader sweep.
NGU will return to action on Friday, April 10th against the Braves of UNC Pembroke in Pembroke, North Carolina.
