The North Greenville Trailblazers were swept in a doubleheader by UNC Pembroke this afternoon at Willoughby Field, falling 7-0 in game one and 6-1 in game two.
UNC Pembroke set the tone early in game one, scoring two runs in the 1st inning before breaking the game open with three runs in the 3rd, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple. The Braves added two more runs in the 4th to extend the lead to 7-0. North Greenville collected eight hits in the game, including multiple hits from Emily Blackwell and Ansley Fowler, but was unable to push a run across in the shutout loss.
Game two followed a similar pattern early as UNC Pembroke struck first with a run in the 1st and added three more in the 3rd, taking advantage of timely hitting to build a 4-0 lead. The Braves extended the lead with runs in the 4th and 5th while keeping NGU's offense in check. North Greenville was able to break through in the 7th inning with a solo home run by Sydney Price, but the late push was not enough as UNC Pembroke secured the 6-1 victory to complete the sweep.
Emily Blackwell led the offense across both games, going 3-for-8, while Ansley Fowler added 3 hits. Sydney Price contributed 2 hits and drove in NGU's lone run of the day with her home run in game two. Brooklyn Amble also had a solid showing with 3 hits across the doubleheader.
In the circle, Haylee Whitesides took the loss in game one, allowing 5 runs over 3.0 innings, while Owyen Lyall pitched 6.0 innings in game two, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits.
NGU will return to action tomorrow in Florence, South Carolina against the Patriots of Francis Marion University.
